Before and After Care

Brows & Lashes

Brow Waxing

Before Care
  • Avoid exfoliation, peels and microdermabrasion to the brow area. Avoid applying products which contain fruit acids, AHA or BHA alpha or beta hydroxy ingredients.
  • Waxing in the brow area should be avoided if active acne is present in the area to be waxed.
  • Clients using acne medications in the brow wax area should not have a brow wax treatment. In the case of some medications, waxing should not be carried out until 3 months after the medication has been stopped. In the case of Roaccutane medication, a period of 12 months must elapse prior to waxing treatments.
  • Clients using retinoid creams may need to cease the use of retinoid creams 1-2 weeks prior to waxing depending on the strength of the cream.
  • Do not apply tanning solutions to the area for a week prior ax waxing will remove the tan, leaving an untanned area above the brow line.
  • Avoid UV exposure as sunburnt skin should not be waxed.
  • Do not tweeze in between appointments as the shape of the brow may be compromised and permanent damage could be done to key hairs vital to the shape of the brow.
  • Arrive to your appointment with no makeup – especially eye makeup and mascara.
After Care
  • Careful management of sun exposure pre and post waxing will avoid hyper-pigmentation of the skin in the waxed area.
  • Wait three days after waxing before applying any tan product to the area.
  • Wait three days after waxing before using exfoliants, peels or microdermabrasion.
  • Avoid applying makeup or other products to the area that has been waxed for 24 hours.
  • Avoid exercise or any activity which induces perspiring for 24 hours.
  • Avoid any style of heat treatment that will raise your body temperate or cause you to perspire to prevent aggravating the skin in the brow are and risking infection.
  • Do not apply any perfumed or alcohol-based products to the area for 24 hours.
  • To prevent bacteria causing an infection, avoid touching the area and if necessary to touch the area, ensure hands are clean.
  • Where possible, wash brows only with water on the same day as waxing. If necessary to use product only use gentle cleansers on the skin in the waxed brow area as the skin will be sensitive and susceptible to any chemicals, emollients and fragrances.
  • Chlorinated or salt water can further irritate the skin after waxing, therefore we advise to not swim at either a pool or a beach.

Traditional Tinting – Brows and Lashes

Tinting is semi-permanent and will fade.
If the brows or lashes look too dark, they will fade. It is important that the colour is a little darker to begin with, so that the tint lasts longer. The initial darkness will only last a few days and will get a little closer to the right colour every time the face is cleansed.

Before Care
  • Arrive to the appointment without makeup, especially eye makeup and mascara.
  • Remove contact lenses prior to treatment.
After Care
  • Avoid touching or rubbing brows or lashes and eyes to avoid irritation.
  • In the first 24 hours, rinse only with water to allow the tint to settle. The area around the hairs can be cleansed with a gentle cleanser. Avoid oil-based cleansers.
  • Avoid swimming for 24 hours so as not to get the tint wet.
  • Avoid UV exposure to prevent tint fading.
  • Avoid re-inserting contact lenses until the following day.
  • Avoid putting makeup on until the next day.

Henna Tinting – Brows

Tinting is semi-permanent and will fade.
If the brows or lashes look too dark, they will fade. It is important that the colour is a little darker to begin with, so that the tint lasts longer. The initial darkness will only last a few days and will get a little closer to the right colour every time the face is cleansed. Henna stain on the skin may last up to 7 days. The henna tint may last 2 – 4 weeks on the brow hairs.

Before Care
  • Do not apply makeup, moisturiser, or any skin care products other than the standard cleansing routine on the day of the appointment.
  • Tanning products may affect the colour of the brow margins.
After Care
  • Avoid touching or rubbing brows and eyes to prevent irritation.
  • Keep brows dry for 24 hours after henna tinting to achieve the best final result. The skin around the tinted area can be cleaned using a gentle cleanser. Avoid oil cleansers.
  • Avoid swimming in chlorinated or salt water for 24 hours.
  • Avoid UV exposure to prevent tint fading.
  • Avoid re-inserting contact lenses until the following day.
  • Avoid putting makeup or tanning products on until the next day.

Lash Lifts

Before Care
  • Remove contact lenses prior to lash lift appointment
  • Do not apply makeup, moisturiser, or any skin care products other than standard cleansing routine on the day of the appointment.
  • Remove false stick-on lashes and residual glue by the previous day.
  • Remove lash extensions and residual glue three days prior to lash lift appointment.
  • Do not undergo a lash tint or any other lash treatments within three days prior to the lash lift appointment to ensure that the lash lift solution will before absorbed correctly and will not cross-react with any traces of other chemicals.
  • Wash hair if required prior to the appointment as hair is unable to be washed after the lash lift as the lashes must remain dry for 24 hours.
  • Remove contact lenses prior to the appointment.
After Care
  • Avoid touching or rubbing the lashes and eyes to avoid irritation.
  • Lashes must remain dry for 24 hours.
  • Don’t wash your hair when you shower to avoid wetting lashes.
  • No swimming for 24 hours.
  • Re-insert contact lenses after 24 hours.
  • Don’t apply makeup especially mascara until the next day.

Spray Tanning

Before Care
  • Freshly shower prior to appointment to remove any residual traces of previously applied products.
  • Shave the day prior to allow freshly shaved skin to rehydrate to prevent the tan application looking patchy.
  • Exfoliating the day before the appointment to shed dead skin cells so that the tan application is sprayed onto new skin and will be retained for a longer period.
  • Exfoliating evens out bumps in the skin surface which results in a better adhesion and overall a more even coverage of the tan.
  • Skin exhibiting mild forms of eczema or psoriasis will not achieve as “even” an uptake of the tan solution as those with smoother skin profiles.
  • Pay particular attention to exfoliate joints such as knees, ankles, elbows and wrist joints.
  • Do not excessively exfoliate the face.
  • Schedule a time when you have the capacity to go home within the recommended wait time period for washing off the solution. Our tan solution wash off time is 2 hours from when it has been applied.
  • Schedule the appointment in conjunction with complimentary appointments that will not impact the success of the solution developing. For example, a massage and a spray tan would not be scheduled together as the spray tan solution will not adhere properly to the skin after the skin has been in contact with the massage oils.
  • If the tan is for a special event, consider an appointment around 2 days before the event so the tan has a chance to develop and settle.
  • The application of any topical products may cross react and create a barrier to prevent tan absorbing into the skin resulting in patchiness and streaking. Avoid applying soaps, body wash or sprays, deodorant, moisturiser, medications and perfume or makeup.
  • Remove all jewellery prior to tanning and leave jewellery off for at least 8 hours.
  • Pack loose fitting clothing items to bring to the appointment to change into after the tan application, as to avoid clothing dragging and absorbing solution back out of the skin.
  • Dark clothing will show staining the least. Be prepared that the solution may stain clothing permanently.
  • Bring rubber thong style shoes to wear home so as to prevent dragging the tan solution from the skin.
  • Bring an umbrella in case of wet weather so as to cover yourself from becoming splashed and diluting the tan solution.
  • Bring a towel or blanket to sit on to travel home and for protecting the seat and seat belt from becoming stained.
  • Arrive earlier than the appointment time to enable the body to cool down and relax in an airconditioned environment.
  • Arrive to the tanning appointment with the skin as cool as possible for the best result. Overheating of the body can cause the body to perspire which will impede the adhesion of the solution and uptake into the skin.
  • Avoid physical exercise, steam showers and saunas immediately prior to tanning.
  • Do not swim in a chlorinated or salt-water pool immediately prior to tanning to avoid cross reaction with the tan solution.
After Care
  • The application of any other products may remove or reduce the colour of the freshly sprayed, or developing, or developed spray tan. Do not apply any other products to the skin until the following day.
  • When showering off the tan, use tepid water only to prevent patchy tan development or streaking.
  • On the next day, products such as deodorants, soaps and body wash can be used sparingly. Body wash is usually kinder to tan solutions than solid block soaps. Choose the least fragranced option. Tan friendly body wash products are also available on the market.
  • Perfume and body sprays should be avoided or placed in an area that can be seen to prevent the chemical ingredients stripping the tan colour.
  • Moisturiser should be used from the following morning, and it is recommended to be used daily for the duration of the tan.
  • There are products on the market called tan extended, which are essentially a form of moisturiser which may or may not contain a slight tint which helps to maintain the depth of the tan for a slightly longer time.
  • When first rinsing off the tan, do not wash the hair as shampoo and conditioning products will run across the body and strip the tan from the skin.
  • The use of bandaids and pore strips may remove colour from the area they were applied.
  • Insect sprays applied directly to the skin may strip tan colour. Alternatively spray a cloud of insect spray and walk through the mist of the cloud.
  • Avoid products with citrus ingredients as citrus is vitamin C which can lighten skin.
  • Shaving is a form of exfoliation and will likely reduce the tan colour as shaving removes skin cells which have absorbed the tanning solution.
  • Exfoliating after a tan application will reduce or remove the tan colour as shaving removes skin cells which have absorbed the tanning solution.
  • Pay particular attention to joins such as knees, ankles, elbows and wrist joints as these areas will retain the tan longer and better than other areas as the areas are usually driest.
  • Do not excessively exfoliate the face. A tan normally fades faster on the face due to the application being one coat rather than 2 coats on the body and due to more frequent washing and removal of makeup.
  • When towel drying after showering, pat dry the skin rather than rubbing vigorously which may cause exfoliation. Jewellery items can be put back on 8 hours after tan application.
  • Clothing stained with tan solution can be soaked in a pre-wash spray to assist in removing the tan colour. Natural fibre products tend to release the stain more readily than synthetic fabrics.
  • To protect car upholstery and the seatbelt, a towel or blanket should be used for the journey home.
  • Cover furnishings with something before resting on them during the wait period and the developing period to protect furniture from staining.
  • Overheating of the body can cause the body to perspire which may prevent the tan colour developing evenly and free from patches or streaking.
  • Avoid physical exercise, steam showers and saunas immediately after and for 24 hours after tan application.
  • Do not swim in a chlorinated or saltwater pool immediately after and for 24 hours after tan application.
  • There is a misconception that a spray tan will protect from UV rays. Tan solution has no SPF factor and therefore does not filter UV rays.
  • Stay out of the sun until after the development period until preferably the next day when sunscreen can be applied.

Relaxation Facials

Before Care
  • Avoid shaving or waxing for up to 48 hours prior to a relaxation facial. Hair removal can make skin sensitive, therefore the facial may be uncomfortable. Hair removal may cause breakouts or leave the skin susceptible to risk of an adverse reaction.
  • Discontinue Roaccutane medication 12 months prior to prevent risk of skin damage.
  • Other medications, whether oral or topical may also need to be stopped prior to the facial.
  • Avoid UV exposure as skin that is even mildly burnt cannot be treated.
  • Don’t apply tanning products in the seven days before the facial.
  • Stop skin exfoliation with physical or chemical exfoliants three days prior.
  • Six weeks should elapse since any skin injectable treatments.
  • Two weeks should elapse since other facial skin services.
  • Please arrive to appointment without makeup or other products applied to the skin.
After Care
  • Avoid using makeup within 24 hours of a facial. If wearing makeup is unavoidable choose a mineral-based option. Ensure makeup brushes are clean and bacteria free.
  • Avoid UV exposure.
  • Avoid gym, sauna or exercise to prevent the skin perspiring to prevent irritation to freshly exfoliated skin.
  • Avoid touching freshly treated skin to prevent spread of bacteria.
  • Minor breakouts after a facial are a normal part off the process of the skin purging after deep cleaning and lymphatic drainage.

Waxing

Before Care
  • Hairs need to be 1cm in length to adhere to the wax and be less likely to break off.
  • Skin needs to be intact and not broken.
  • Lightly exfoliate the area to be waxed 2- 3 days prior to treatment.
  • Shower prior to the appointment to wash residual oils and bacteria.
  • Avoid UV exposure for 2 – 3 days prior to treatment. Sunburnt skin must be fully recovered before waxing.
  • Lightly moisturise for a few days prior to waxing. Moisturising will hydrate the skin which will allow for the wax to release more easily and less painfully. No moisturizing on the day of waxing as wax may not adhere to skin.
  • Medication with retinol should be stopped at least two weeks prior to waxing. Retinol-based products make skin vulnerable to injury.
After Care
  • Avoid products with fragrances or alcohol.
  • Soothing gel such as aloe vera may be applied to soothe the skin.
  • Cold compresses can be used if necessary to soothe redness, bumps and irritation.
  • Wait 3 – 4 days before exfoliating.
  • Moisturise skin 2 – 3 days after waxing to prevent clogging of pores and causing infection.
  • Avoid hot showers and baths on the day of waxing.
  • Avoid applying makeup on the same day as a face wax.
  • Avoid applying deodorant to waxed skin for 24 hours.
  • Apply topical medications for ingrown hairs instead of trying to scrape them out which may cause infection and scarring.
  • No shaving between waxing as it interrupts the hair cycle and length of hair for next waxing appointment.
  • Avoid UV exposure.
  • For 24 hours avoid activities such as swimming, steam rooms and exercise to reduce perspiration activity that may cause skin irritation.
  • Wear light breathable, non-elasticized clothing that doesn’t rub against the skin.
  • After intimate area waxing, wear cotton underwear to reduce friction and prevent perspiration.
